Assistant Controller / Accounting Manager

Location: Grand Junction, CO

Position Overview:

Mesa Systems is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Controller / Accounting Manager. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to join a dynamic team and contribute to the financial management and strategic direction of the company.

The Assistant Controller / Accounting Manager will manage the accounting department.

This position will report directly to the Controller.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Revenue billing

  • Credit and Collections

  • Accounts payable

  • Payroll

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform general financial accounting and other related duties for the organization.

  • Oversee the Revenue Accounting/Billing Dept. to ensure accurate and timely reporting of revenue, generation of invoices and payment of sales/contractor commissions.

  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable and Credit & Collections Dept. to ensure the accurate and timely management of all Accounts Receivable, including process for extension of credit to customers, cash receipts application and weekly customer a/r status reports.

  • Oversee the Accounts Payable Dept., ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, employee expense reports and cash management. Selecting of weekly check runs based on cash flow management.

  • Oversee the Payroll Dept., including all compliance, quarterly and year-end payroll closing, federal and state reporting.

  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancement within the accounting finance department.

  • Administer Corporate credit card program, monitor usage and review expenditures.

  • Respond to CFO, Controller, and other senior managers with accurate and timely work to facilitate the company’s financial needs.

  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.

Summary of Management Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and Hire appropriate individuals

  • Mentor and manage direct reports to continually develop accounting staff skills

  • Communicate, empathize and lead accounting staff with Company’s Core Values and Purpose

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with progressive responsibility.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP.

  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

  • Prior experience in the transportation or logistics industry is a plus.

  • This position reports to the Controller and offers the opportunity for career advancement within Mesa Systems.

  • Relocation to Grand Junction, CO, is an option for candidates not currently residing in the area.
